Smith Tabata has the largest medical negligence department in the Eastern Cape, consisting of five specialist attorneys and multiple support staff based in East London, Bhisho and Mthatha.

The unit has, for the past eight years, assisted the Eastern cape Department of Health, with in excess of 750 cases. The unit has achieved multiple successes in its work, significantly reducing the departments contingent liability 

The department will act for individuals but only in respect of claims against private doctors and/or private hospitals
